Hard to have faith sometimes.
« on: July 22, 2015, 02:14:52 PM »
So my father was diagnosed 11 months ago with cancer.   Stage 4 in his lungs and his bones.   They intially said without treatment he only had around 3 months left.   This all came as a massive shock because up until then he was fine.  He had hurt his back dragging a log out of the yard and he couldn't get rid of the pain from that.  Went in had an MRI and they found a spot on his lung. Further tests found it all over.

They started him on radiation and chemo immediately. At first it all seemed to be helping he felt better after the radiation.  It relieved  some of the pain.  Lately though he's on a downhill slide it seems like.  He got an infection in his lung which put him in the hospital for a week.  Now it's a week of chemo every three weeks.

It really pisses me off that all the money that is spent in cancer research and we are still using something as archaic and barbaric as chemo therapy.   I know that I'm naive to think this way but he was perfectly fine until the chemo set in.   sometimes I think the chemo is doing more harm than good.  Especially if he has to keep this regimen up until he inevitably passes on.  I had an aunt go through this almost identical scenario and she just got to the point where she gave up. Was tired of fighting it and the constant sickness.

I know most people in this country and maybe most people on this forum don't like to hear it but cannabis has been shown to work wonders for cancer patients.  Studies are showing that the oil is effective in attacking cancer cells and the "side effects" are beneficial too. Munchies, pain killer etc.  The problem is the stigma surrounding it.  For years it has been beaten into everyone's head about being a doper or a pot head and now my dads generation is dropping left and right from cancer and a possible miracle cure for the disease is tied up with bureaucratic red tape.

But it's not just that treatment that's being stifled by the big pharmacuetical companies and the government.  There's all sorts of treatments that are made to jump through years of hoops to even get through to the point of human trials and for most patients that's just to long to wait

There's the Kansius research that was started by a guy in Erie PA that uses nano gold particles and sound waves to attack the cancer cells and leaves healthy tissue alone.  That gentlemen died, of cancer, and his research was picked up by Baylor.  Now it's going to human trials but they will be in Italy in 2016.

Greed is the worst of all sins as far as I'm concerned.  Greed is what's tearing this country apart.  It's more profitable to maintain a patient and treat them until they die than it is to cure them. So all this possible research is put through the ringer while people die left and right In agony injecting poison into their bodies under the guise of treatment.

I know there's a plan and should work harder at putting my faith in God but when I think about all these things it's so hard.   It's so hard to see what goes on in this world and still believ it's part of a plan.   I haven't been a very good Christian for most of my life but I'm trying now and things like this make me remember why I didn't believe for all those years.  I'm struggling right now and you guys are one step away from strangers to me and it's awkward to write sowmthing like this.  I don't ever push my problems onto others because I feel like that's selfish.  There are a boat load of people in this world that need more than I do. I just needed to vent to someone partially anonymous.

I graduated with 12 people in my class and 7 out of 12 of us have a parent that's dying or has died of cancer.

husker I am watching my Dad deal with cancer and completely understand some of your comments. I also agree that anything that could be used should be used and patients should be able to decide what they want to do. but I will also say there is so much information out there that we do have to rely on the Dr's advice many times even when it seems at odds with some of what we may have read or thought about. I am not saying that to say just keep the status quo (doing what Dr's recommend) because at the end of the day the whole "Quality of life" issue is a big part of this. Some times I think medicine loses sight of that and gives treatments that may help with some little aspect while causing other issues that become just as bad if not worse.

I am sorry your Dad is going through this, and that you are watching it. I know the helpless feeling you have, and the angry feelings as well, trust me. It is not easy. And while I won't claim that God can cure these things, I find, and this is just for me, that if I can let go of that frustration and put it on God, that it helps me. Will it provide a miracle cure? No, but I don't think God works that way. There's too many examples of horrific things happening in life that we can't possibly fathom from a "big plan" perspective. So I look to God not for a cure for my Dad, but for some peace for me, and for my Mom. That's what I hope He can provide. I hope the same for you at this difficult time. Feel free to PM me if I can help in any way at all. My best to you, your family and especially to your Dad.

I don't know what God's plan is.  His ways are higher than ours and we can't understand.  This kind of thing started with our sin nature back in Adam's day due to sin.  All we can do is pray and seek his will and be obedient.  Somehow God will be glorified in this situation.  He prepares us to interact with those he brings us into contact with through our wisdom and experience, both of which come from Him.  I know that this is not always comforting as we are going through trials and bad times but God has a plan that He will reveal in His time.  I will be praying for your dad and the family.

This scripture was put in the Word of the Day thread this morning by Texas Redneck

A Thorn in the Flesh - 2 Corinthians 12

7 Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me—to keep me from exalting myself! 8 Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. 9 And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast [c]about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 10 Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with [d]insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

Sorry to hear.
Thoughts and prayers to you guys in this time.
Yes the frustration of it all is possibly the worst part.
Big money is the root of it all I also suspect.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

Brother I can't imagine your situation and hope to never experience it. obviously in WA cannabis is much easier to obtain and I have seen it work wonders for very sick people. Especially the high CBD strains that don't actually get a person "high" but saved that little girl with seizures in GA recently.

Do what you can with what you can get. Go full vegetarian and get rid of dairy and sugar, all those inflammation causing cancer feeding things that we all love. Get him into Yoga and Chinese medicine, and get him right with God. Studies have proven that the stress over the illness can be worse than the illness itself.

Praying for you guys here.

I'm sorry to hear about your pain and trials.  I am very close to the industry of medicine and there is huge monetary incentives.  Pharma wants to find a cure so they can charge lots of money for it so naturopathic medicine is a threat.  Take the recent development of Hep C drugs.  $300k for the cure.

And Matt is right.  This is for the Lord's glory and we don't know how exactly.  Perhaps it is so that you can see the grace He's wrought in your life, who knows?

But your semi stranger friends here support you and are praying for your peace and comfort as well as your father's
Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Pay attention to what Matt just mentioned

2 Cor 12:7-10 with emphasis on 9

Some people think Paul is talking about an infirmity (Sickness) he had wile in Corinth, many think it was Malaria. The thorn in your side...the thing that causes you to have to go to God all the time for help might very well be an infirmity, or it could be an addiction. For the alcoholic, he needs God to resist. For me, I pray out the armor of God written in Ephesians.

But did you know Jesus took authority over all of this? No disease, no temptation, nothing can take authority over him, because he took authority over all of it.

Our faith falls short...period

If we had absolute faith we would have no cancer. Do you believe you don't have to get sick? Do you speak those words? Do you know that words go on forever?? Bet you didn't. If they are words of doubt, you essentially broadcast into the spiritual realm, well, I hope God can hear me, and I hope he can heal me or my dad, or mom.

But you don't completely believe or have faith that God will have your back or the words you speak would be "Halleluiah! In the name of the great physician, I command this infirmity, this cancer into the pits of hell where it belongs, we shall have it no more. I command this sickness to leave my body and I absolutely believe God will be faithful."
Then go back to work, you're healed!

I could go on and on because I believe God works miracles today. Believe me or not, but a young man and my son prayed over a camp teacher, a woman of late 20's with a badly sprained ankle. in one evening, right after the prayer, that ankle healed! Swelling went away and it was pain free. It happened this week in my church!

I know of a pastor, young guy 30's. Got cancer somehow. Started to eat him alive. He went through every known chemo treatment with diminishing effect. Finally the chemotherapist could only offer him an experimental drug. Finally, with a life of misery and perhaps a couple of weeks left to live. He said "No"

It occurred to him that he didn't have complete faith. So he simply claimed God will heal me. He believed it, and he went on, not wondering when he was going to die, but wondering how long would it take him to recover

True story.

The Doctor had asked him to come back in 2 weeks. Later the Doctor admitted he thought he would be visiting this pastor in the hospital. But in two weeks the pastor showed up better than ever. The doctor tested him and found all the tumors were slightly smaller. So he told the pastor to come back in 2 months. Same thing in two months, smaller tumors. and at this point the pastor had resumed cutting grass and domestic chores.

The Doctor said come back in 6 months. When he did, this pastor had the interest of the cancer specialists here in Cincinnati. They examined him and discovered no new cancer and some tumors were gone and remaining ones were all smaller. He said one orange sized tumor was the size of a peanut!

Come back in 6 months. When he did, the pastor received the peck scan. You guessed it, cancer free! In less than 1 1/2 years.

I spoke with the man, and prayed with him one night. The spirit taught him that God acts upon our prayers, our sincere, unhindered prayers, he hears our words echoing into eternity. Make sure those words are what you want to be heard by others!

Thank you all for the words of encouragement.  I didn't mean anything derogatory by my strangers statement.   this is the nicest forum Ive ever been on and the support I see everyone give one another is outstanding.  We will get through all of this.

I am working towards being a better human and Christian. Whenever I pray I never ask for anything for myself other than the health and well being of my loved ones.  And to thank him for the blessings he's given me.   I feel to ask him for anything for my self is selfish and since I don't really need anything right now I don't want to waste his time.   You never know when I might need to call in a favor.  I'm thinking now might be a time to call in that favor.

Words do go on forever but the leap of faith has always been difficult for me to grasp.  And me questioning my faith essentially means that on some level I don't believe he will have my back.  I've never seen miracles I've never seen something happen completely against the laws of science.  I've heard stories but it's never been anything I can see, and put my hand on.

As I said I always keep my problems to myself and handle them myself but this out of control feeling is driving me crazy.

It's just hard because my life wasn't always great but it was never that bad and this is the only time in my life that I've felt that God is the only way.  I'm just afraid it's to late.

Yesterday was just a bad day.  Today's looking up though.

I am working towards being a better human and Christian.

^^This is all you need to ask him for^^

It's just hard because my life wasn't always great but it was never that bad and this is the only time in my life that I've felt that God is the only way.  I'm just afraid it's to late.

It's never too late

I have felt and still feel as you do, never ask for anything myself, always for others, but then I was guided by my pastor one day while praying before our men's bible study. I was about to end the invocation, when he asked if I was going to include myself in any of the blessings I was requesting. I was a little shocked that he would interrupt mid prayer, but he took the opportunity to teach all of us right there. He asked me point blank, "isn't there anything you need help with?" I said no, I'm ok right now I think. He kindly reminded me that only Christ was perfect and it was prideful to think that there wasn't anything I needed God's help or love for.

You're working on being a better human and Christian, like all of us I think, ask him for help with that. You'll feel better about the whole situation when you let him in. Start thanking him for healing your Dad instead of asking him to do it. Thank him for helping you and your family through this. As corny as the it can sound sometimes the footprints poem has very true meaning. This is the time that he is carrying you, not abandoning you.

I'm not just hammering on you, telling you, "you need to have faith". But I am saying you can ask for it.

Very good points. I think we can all fall into the category that we can always use His help with ourselves.

Thank you again guys for the thoughts and prayers.

It may seem like we are all somewhat strangers, but nothing is further from the truth.

Through salvation we are according to my bible, born again, as we all know. Born of the same father this time, so actually, we are all brothers and sisters. The spirit and the Love for the father and for Jesus he gives us then binds us together in a common interest. It is the "Real" binding force here on this site. We all like trucks, guns, eating and so forth, but way down deep, we love him more.

So what we do here is really just practice for what comes next. Life was meant to be a struggle...ever since there was an opposite of good, of light. Because of the opposing forces and the myriad of ways a crafty and strong devil can attack us, we have the eventual struggle. We are either going into a struggle, in the middle of one, or putting one in the rear view mirror. Of course when that one leaves sight, you better have your "Scouts-out" because it is already here, and you just haven't picked up on it

Men here
Do one thing for yourself

Pray daily for God to give you wisdom. All other things will come from wisdom, so, get you some!

The faith that we have comes from God.  When you doubt ask God for faith. The devil uses our past against us causing doubt.

Brothers and sisters I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Man guys I wish we were all closer because it would be nice to have friends like you guys to hang out with.

So I don't own a bible but plan to remedy that this weekend.  Been talking with fiancé about all this and I'm going to start reading the bible out loud to us every night before bed.

My prayers I say have evolved in the few days since I started this thread and hope they continue to get better.

Ephesians 6:13 “Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil.  Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.”

I believe that passage is why you were referring to in the post above Don
I sent that to my family in a group text yesterday.  I'm going to send a verse to them every day from now on.

So honestly I'm just googling bible verses right now but I did get the app as was suggested that way I can read it some in my downtime at work (which is significant).   it's better than reading doom and gloom news all the time or mindlessly staring at FB.

Leviticus 26:3
“If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments, and perform them … you shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely. I will give you peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none will make you afraid; I will rid the land of evil beasts, and the sword will not go through your land. You will chase your enemies, and they shall fall by the sword before you. Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight; your enemies shall fall by the sword before you.”

That's what I sent today.

Any update on your father?  How about your walk with the Lord?  Are you saved?
It is not the size of your faith but the quality of your faith that makes a difference.  The Holy Spirit is working on you.  I pray that there is someone close to you that you can speak with about this.  If not PM me and I will try to help you.

No change on my dad to speak of.  Hes battling pneumonia so it's been an uphill struggle for a few weeks now.

As for me.  Well my dads favorite song and saying is "one piece at a time" by Johnny Cash.  Kind of how he lives his life and how I'm trying to start living mine.  I'm reading the bible every day. Some more than others but I try to get a few pages a day.

I'd say so far my walk with him is parrallel but our paths haven't quite crossed yet.

These are Salvation Scriptures.

Read, ponder, think on, and bury these in your heart.

This is your time, God is calling you

Accept his invitation, for he loves you enough to reach out to you my friend!

Matthew 1:21  She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.

Luke 19:10  For the Son of Man [Jesus] came to seek and to save what was lost.

John 1:12  Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

John 3:16, KJV  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:36  Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.

John 6:40  For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

John 10:9  I [Jesus] am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.

John 10:27-28  My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.
