Ken, when you want to take you gf out on the town grab the 5 ton.....
Got worse....
So, 5th locked up, trying to pull it into neutral, on the way home.... coasted 1/4 mile to my driveway. Pulled shifter, could not fix at home. Towed to the shop, pulled rear housing, pushed 5th shift fork into neutral, seemed fine.

Decided to pull tranny to fix rear main seal while there. Rear main not the leak. The side cover (the one gasket I wasn't going to change because I didn't want to pull the injection pump, but changed anyway) , ran rearwards, behind the flywheel housing, and dripped below the rear main. ...and..
Looks like the pan is also leaking.

Maybe I shouldn't have painted the engine black, or ignored leaks like my original plan.

That's the problem Tate. Don't see anything wrong. I've read a million posts about it happening to a lot of people, but what they found wrong is not wrong with mine.
I have a new 5th fork coming just in case (locally).
Thanks for the offer. If I need something I'll call you.

Someday, this thread will be the first one to a million views :likebutton:

Think about what an enormous waste of time over a huge geographical area this has been

Could we possibly account for periodic downturns in the DOW?

Edit:
OK just incase someone doesn't pick up on it, I am making light of all this, as in joking!!!

I gave the yard a two solid pass with the 4’ rake and tossed any rock that got stuck and then added some 16-16-16 fertilizer per the Sod Farm recommendation.
Turned on my sprinkler system and made sure each area got average coverage all around

Needed some parts for the soy bean drill so I made a 7 hour round trip down to Marysville Kansas.  It rained so I cant plant anyway.  It takes 3 days to order parts. I can drive there and have them same day. I have a pretty good parts stash but its still a learning  curve on what I need and how many. I also learned if you over tighten an air bag you throw away $60 real quick.

Hard lessons are the ones best learned

I know from my Armee instructor pilot days

The tougher and scarier you make the training, the faster and deeper the student will learn.

I had some tricks that would really get pilots attention.

One of my favorites was aft wheel landing on this mountain in Korea. The pilot could only make the approach to the side of the thing, then had to turn 180 while at an out of ground effect hover. Then the crew chief would talk him back onto the ridge where there was only room to stick the two back tires. I'd wait while the pilot was pressing finger prints into the hard plastic cyclic grip then as he was just starting to touch a wheel or two, I'd shut down one of the engines.

The only thing he could do to save our lives would be to rotate this thing 30 degrees nose low and dive down the side of the mountain. Now think about it, he started at about 10-15 degrees nose up so that is a whole lot of pitching down, and there is nowhere to land, and the rotor RPM is rapidly decaying. The ONLY thing that could save us would be for me to throw the engine back on line, but that would take 20 seconds or so, about 10 seconds or so after the impact, or to dive like a mermaid going deep and try to build life saving airspeed.

If you got the airspeed, you could make the rotor system more efficient, requiring less power, and there change our status from a lawn dart back to being a helicopter. Now during this gut wrenching dive the boulders and trees and mountain side was like right there.

It was quite the maneuver, and guys remembered that. I taught things to Chinook pilots that 99% of the other IP's didn't even know how to do. They just didn't have my experience, so I figured it was my job to teach these life saving tips. One guy I taught this to who was a 4 year pilot or so, showed up in my room in Kandahar a couple of decades later and shared a cold one. He told me in all his flying days, that mountain thing was the most intense he had ever experienced...and he learned it so well, that now, an instructor pilot himself, he was teaching his best the same thing.

Hard lessons are often learned the best!

Sadly, I remember paying .26 cents per gallon

Around here diesel is hovering around the $2.00 ish threshold and gasoline in the $1.30 arena...remarkable!

Don, I remember that too. After HS I heard gas was going to be .80$ a gallon and freaked.

Here is Ca, it is all right around $3, Nv is $2 for gas and mid $2 for diesel.

Well still not exactly spring here.
The snow is going now, but north facing slopes and in the woods still have a plenty.
This may me he latest we’ve been able to stay out in the spring, end of April generally spell the end.

But alas, all y’all planting gardens and sod, I’m still on the skidoo. All he shoreline water has frozen up again, we’ve been mid teens to 30 all week so winter was preserved another week. Supposed to hit high 40’s or better all this coming week, so that will spell the end for me.

Picture from last night. Still 6” of snow on my trail.

Samm, so, when the lake (River) is like that it isn't safe to cross, and obviously you aren't doing any boating, so what?

Just hang out and wait for the summer condition to set in?

BTW, you have mosquitos/no-see-ems there?

It’s currently good. 28-36” of ice still.
We were lucky this year the water came up early and shore ice is at max forebay.
So we have a little water to skip but no real ledge.

I expect after this week the ice will have candled in half or better.
That is when it begins to get unsafe.
I’ll trust 1” of November ice far more than 2 feet of spring ice.

So to finally answer,
Once we can’t get across in spring, it’s a waiting game for the ice to go.
Use that time to prep the boat, summarize the winter stuff.
It’s a small window of downtime to do stuff around the house also.

Think of your Alaska story of he walk in the woods to the moose I think it was.
We have them that bad too.

Today was mowing day. Went to Lowe’s to return a defective 300w equivalent CFL that was DOA. Replacement was DOA too. That’s 3 items DOA from Lowe’s in the last week. A T12 ballast and now two CFLs. While I was in town I picked up a flower arrangement for the missus for moms day.

Then did a trash run. Then mowed and mowed all the trails and then serviced the push mower and cleaned it. Then straightened up the shop a bit and put away all the metal from my shelf project.

Then went and worked in the garden a bit. Harvested some cauliflower and spinach. Planted some additional seedlings I’d been growing and started transitioning the watering system from overhead back to drips

Went first thing and bought another 1.5 yards of planters mix for the last raised garden bed. Then used wheel barrow to get it to back yard. Returned trailer to storage yard and met by appointment two separate customers at shop for parts sales. Came home and ate lunch and relaxed.

Sold quite a bit of product online and am going to shop tomorrow after fetching my mom some flowers to plant in the morning. Wife picked out and I bought her present two weeks ago, I did order something else small which she does not know about but it hasn’t arrived yet.

Going to work on finishing up punch list on Baylee’s jku tomorrow afternoon. Should be close to done after that.

Living in the remote north hoping Ken doesn’t bring H up here any time soon…..

Picked these up, made by longhaul. Just $20. Pretty stout, 1.3 gal about 1/2 the price of Rotopax.

Got some of those for DUG too.

Scored a greenworks hedge trimmer for just $99, normally $250. Mismarked and I was looking for the trimmer, but got a battery and charger too.

Today, actually started at 21:00 last night, smoke a pork butt and a
Brisket. Pork was done at 10am. So we rested it and had it for lunch.  Brisket done at 2pm. Rested it and had it for dinner along with fresh spinach from the garden and fresh cauliflower from the garden. I forgot how good fresh veggies were.  Loving this COVID quarantine. And there’s nothing like a brisket sammich in white bread

Here's a look at that conex box building I was talking about a few months ago. I picked up this other 40x40 for 7 grand on a online auction. One of the local concrete guys split with the building company he was working for so we got him out to put these up for us. I think the 40x40 is the eventually going to have a door on it. I think we are going to have problems with barn swallows.

One last zip across the ice today.
Likely have another day or two before getting in the ice becomes fun.

Hauled laundry and curtains back out. Picked up rakes and chainsaw.
Have a tree to cut in the back yard.

Will be packing winter stuff away this weekend and getting boat ready.

Oh yeah, have 50# of meat thawing to make pepperoni this week.
30# of real old moose and 20# pork for mix.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

I’m going to regret 50# there is no doubt in my mind.

I plan on some larger casing to eat up a bunch, it will be spicy pizza pepperoni variety.

The suck will come doing 20-25# of Pepperettes.
They are no fun at best.
HH6 said she’ll help this time, spread the suck around. Lol.

So. May long weekend.
Snow overnight. Current temp 20* feels like 14.
They have moved Monday’s snow to Wednesday now. Global warming. Yeah right.

According to the ice at the marina last night I might have been able to work out at the lake this week but I’m not sold on it. Better to be home with $20k sled on trailer rather than bottom of lake.

I just thought about it, Samm, you don't do very much grass cutting or landscaping up there, do you?

I try to keep the house to a minimum.
Read, I do not fertilize or water.
If it don’t grow much it don’t need cut much.
Fits with living at the lake well.

I have a riding mower at the cabin.
I planted grass there begrudgingly.
I do like he grass over the mud, just not the extra work grass creates.
It is growing in peat on clay. Some much better than others.
Also not fertilized or watered, but am considering fertilizer to try and thicken it.

We do have a semi ok growing season albeit short compared to you all.
I planted some root veggies in he greenhouse last weekend.
We’ll see how they fared in a couple weeks.

But short answer is no not a lot goes on.
Mama has some plans for this year though so we’ll see what happens.

So I had the forced job change going on three weeks.  I now it in an office and pull numbers on prints.  Doing my best to stay accurate and not listen to weather customers are actually building the house I spent three hours bidding.

This week I am once reminded why I liked working in the cabinet shop,  up and moving!!!

It’s all for an end game goal right?

Dave,  what you do is extremely important. No one gets paid until a sale is made and no sale gets made without a winning proposal. The trick is to add value that makes them want to pay a few $$ more for your product versus your competitor. Whether that be because you are quick and reliable or because your designs or products are better.

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.
