Even more global warming!
We need to get rid of gas burnin' cars or this snow will really start to pile up!

Did I mention Biden is an idiot?

And BTW, why are 7,000 federalized troops still in Washington DC?

Shoveling snow??

Building a fence, sleeping in a garage!!

It was 2 degrees above zero actual temp here this morning. Rolling blackouts every 3 hours

Supposed to get 1/2 inch of ice tonight on top of the 6 inches of snow. Not sure the roof on the shop is engineered to handle that load.

So I’ve been on a ladder trying to get as much snow off the roof as I can before the ice hits.

New genset working well. 45 amps of 240 is pretty sufficient so far. Which means the auto standby genset I ordered will be even better as it’s 83 amps at 240

how are you splitting the power?
I backfeed the main panel from the shop panel.  I have a 240 four wire outlet wired into the sub panel in garage that I connect to the output of the generator.

So process is:
Flip off the main
Flip off the electric central heat breaker
Crank the generator and flip the 50 amp breaker on that its connected to in the shop (it stays connected but the breaker stays off while on the mains so to make it easier)

When power is back on, I simply flip the breaker to the shop off from the main house panel and flip the main breaker from the utility company on.  Flip the central heat breaker back on and then go flip the 50amp breaker in the shop to disconnect the gen set and then kill the gen set before going back to the main panel and flipping the shop back on line (since the shop power is where I have two space heaters running under the plastic to keep the pool equipment thawed.)

That feeds and runs everything in the main house, the sub panel in the guest house and the seacan.  I haven’t tried yet to see if it will run the electric heat in the house, but I think it will if I take the pool off line and limit the other electric.

When I get the Cummins/Onan 20Kw it should do much better and I’ll have a load management center with the pool and central heat/ac on the shedding panel.  It should run everything but in the event the waveform starts to show its over loading, it will take one or both of those 50 amp loads offline until the capacity is there.

Charles.  Please get off the ladder if your slope is greater then 4/12 you will be perfect, if I remember it’s a metal roof also so it changes snow load also.   No falling off
It will sluff off easy easy for ya with a little heat in that shop

Dave, you don’t have to worry about Charles, he’s probably in the bucket of the kubota with ropes run down to the controls. So it’s all safe.

Lol. You guys...

Dave (both of ya) the slope on the shop is really shallow like 8 inch slope over 10 ft.

Oddly enough I have what is called a pond rake which is a 36inch aluminum landscape rake head on a long handle with a rope attached to the end to retrieve it when you toss it in the pond to pull weeds off the bottom.

I got on the 8 ft ladder and tossed that on to the roof and pulled it by the rope to drag the snow off the roof.  Only had to place the ladder in 6 spots to clear the entire roof. Only the snow between the peaks of the R panel stayed in.

Better safe than sorry.

I did make the 30 mile drive in the snow to the store to get some Baileys.  I’m not a Bailey’s guy but with all the snow I have a weird craving.

Then my nearest neighbor called me to say he was in the ditch near Crockett.  Guy has a 1/2 dodge 2wd on summer tires.  So redneck to the rescue.

Got home and realized it had been 6 hours since the last rolling blackout, which had been coming every 3 hours the last 2 days.  So I went to pop a pizza in the oven and.....bam..power out again.  So the new generator is powering the oven, so pretty good there.

Isn't it fun watching people in the snow who really should not be out there? I mean there are times you can't help it but most of the time.

Good luck out there TRN and all who have to deal with it all the time. Pizza does sound good though!!

Dang Charles. You’re getting it good.

So today I picked up the supplies for gazebo 2 point oh.
And a new 7k axle for the car hauler.
Was a balmy 5 degrees or so, -20 something wind chills this aft.
It’s been a deep freeze all over the last couple weeks.
We went probably the better part of last two weeks sub -30 and morning lows were -40 or colder all last week. So the balmy 5 is very welcome.

Thought I may have had bent one axle, and scrubbing 60% of the tread on 700 miles confirmed it.
New axle goes under tomorrow.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

We will see they want to stick me in a test lab

Day 2 of basketball tournament in Sioux Falls South Dakota. Zane's team lost the game last night. 2 games tonight at 6 and 8. The pool at the hotel had way too much chlorine in it. Most of the kids were complaining about their skin stinging when they got out. Jasper had it bad. Rubbed him down with lotion and that helped.

It was nice sitting in the lobby with some adult drinks shooting the bull with other parents. One of which is our family Dr. and others are various teachers. People we don't normally see in a social setting.

Just returned home from traveling north alabama for my brother a funeral. We were barely above the line of weather and still had 4-6 inches of snow.

Last 2 games last night. Won the first by one point at the last second. Lost the last game by 40 something to 18. Those boys were good. But the funny thing is the other team was up by over 20 points . They obviously were going to win. But one of the fans tried picking a fight with our coach! Me and boys will meet you outside. What? He kept yelling at our coach about one of our plays that he didn't like So the coach finally yelled back to shut up already. A bunch of the parents were jerks to us. Unreal. The ref finally had to step in and tell their coach's to shut that guy up or he's out.
Who says 4th grade basketball is not exciting.
Oh and here's the kicker. The team we lost to with the jerk parents were 3rd graders.

Power came back on at the hide Saturday morning. Family came up and I got everything picked up and got some cpvc fittings and pipe to bring back to Houston to troubleshoot and fix the broken pipe here.

Most of the snow melted and I was able to ascertain that I dodged many bullets. No burst pipes in the guest house and the outdoor mounted water heater didn’t freeze (it has a electrically heated exchanger to keep
It from freezing). Only casualty was a septic sprinkler head that froze and broke. A had several pine trees that snapped in half from the weight of the ice and many big limbs down too but none of them hit anything. Several close calls with one landing right next to the pool equipment and piping and some right next to the material rack.

Pulled the rest of the electrical cable through the conduit in the shop and just have to finish the outlets.  Moved the massive pile of white oak I had milled and was able to get the van and the wife’s SUV in nose to tail with room to spare.

Here’s hoping that the broken pipe here at the house in Houston is an easy fix.

Anyone know what these connections are? On the augers 1/2 lines, that is a standard quick connect it goes into. Not a JIC or pipe.

Not a clue here JR.

Yesterday in H town I had two burst pipes.

Real blessing here.  There is a loop that exits the building envelope to the space over the porch and runs across the space above the garage to the outside wall where the tankless heater is mounted.   It’s at the 90s just before entering the building envelope that they both broke. Shoddy work on the pipe insulation.  They did not tape at the corners and the gap allowed them to freeze at the corners.

So that meant only taking down a few pieces of moulding and a piece of beadboard ceiling on the porch and all the water was outside the house so no damage to the floors wall or ceiling

Worked and came home to a quiet house. The girlfriend, her son, her best friend, best friend's husband and brother all went up north to my GF's dad's cabin to go snowshoeing and check out state parks. I have to work and couldn't take off due to other people having vacation. So it's a quiet weekend for me and Bear the GSD who gets to relax while I go work.

Was replying to JR, about Tex's post. Thought it looked like he had a weird deck. Didn't realize the pic was rotated sideways.

I've been dealing with crackheads at the shop for a couple months, so started the process of installing some yard lights out near the street. It's pretty dark. Since I have to run 150ft of power out there I decided to kill 2 birds with one stone.

This is an old real estate sign. Stripping the paint and bad rust on one side, grind, weld, then put it on a couple 15' poles with my business painted on the panels, and 2 lights at the top.

Come on Dave#1, don’t you know fences and walls only work in DC and rich liberal enclaves.

Seem to keep the stupid poor neighbor/renters out of my yard.

They have now two cars in the driveway with no tires.

Yes there's a fence, with 2 Rotties on the inside, but that didn't keep them from trying to enter.... they did, and they graffitied a couple of my vehicles (gramp's Studebakers) and building. Luckily they didn't paint any of the 30 customer cars I had at the time.
I put up some live game cams and caught a couple guys feeding the dogs.
The next day I tracked them to a crack house and that's all I'll say about that.
... but they aren't the only ones on my side of town so trying to be proactive.

Can’t believe you’d want to advertise, I mean is being H’s bf really considered a job even?
Living in the remote north hoping Ken doesn’t bring H up here any time soon…..

Ken that is a lot of work. Why not just practice your shooting skills. I bet even a bunch of crackheads could figure out your place isn’t the best place to tag.

Glad to see Shawn is still on you about Hildabeast!  Sounds like a great time to hire a couple of new guard dogs that the miscreants haven’t befriended with food - get same as yours and sit back and watch the excitement recorded on your game cams, when the crackheads think that they are YOUR dogs!
