Anything I shouldn’t remove from the inside and/or floor plan suggestions (8’camper)

Are you just looking for a change or are there problems now. Brave man for taking on a camper rebuild. When they put those smaller campers together, All the companies use about the same floor plan because there just is not enough room to do much else.

Just a change. I want to open it up as much as possible inside. Maybe remove the closet space and elongate the seating area

JR and Ken modified campers on here so far. Way back when i modded a slide in like yours which was marine plywood base construction. Yea, you could gut and reconfigure, pretty much the sky is the limit. I'd say to set it in a strong jig to keep it where it is while you break things down if you are going after structure. Then reinforce the snot out of it before proceeding. Also be keen to look for rot which is common in those.

You will be shocked when you open it up and see how much isn't there. When that was built, weight was a big issue, they really skimped when building them. Special use? Closet space isn't much to start with so I wouldn't want to loose what there is. Lots more room to work with if you had a larger camper to start with.
I used an 8ft camper as a hunting camp years ago. Also had a couple tents set up for cooking and sleeping. Four guys with a weeks worth of stuff just wouldn't fit inside that little camper.

My main use is because I don’t have a boat with a cuddly yet. This allows me to boat and camp on the weekends with the lady and the dog.
I just need it to be comfortable to sleep in, with a get away from the camping crew if needed.
No major storage items, but I do want to add a (two)battery system and led lighting so we can play cards and eat in relative comfort.
My problem is that I focus on the lake lot, when I should focus on the bigger picture. Someday we’ll want to drive further out and stay longer.
I’m hoping your ideas will get me thinking more in-depth.
Or maybe I need to upgrade my camper rather than remodeling??

I second this, but I would also say that farmer jon did some camper remodeling along with his sleeper conversion in his camper semi.  I would tell you about the one guy on here that actually did a remodel of a slide in unit, but I cant for the life of me remember his name.  but if I remember correctly I think he was from MI.  does anybody remember that gentleman?

he did take it all the way up into the northern part of Alaska and had some good things to say about his work.

No real advice other than maybe open the space up and use moveable, configurable furniture so to be mission configurable.

Ya know, take a look at the space either side fwd and aft of the wheel well. You could easily hang an aux something there, or cur a access door to access from inside. Then there's hanging stuff on the outside, like a propane tank to free up space inside. Add a carrier for a couple 5 gal cans. Could be fuel or water, who knows. Get a reverse osmosis filter and a hose, then simply pump right from the lake and enjoy. I'd add an awning aft and maybe to one side. You could add a fold up shelf to the outside somewhere to use as a wash basin or utility table. Add a couple all weather 300 watt solar panels to the roof, and skip bat numba two, save more space. If you get ambitious you could hack into one side and create a fold up shelf that hinges on the bottom and is held horizontally with cables, Sew up a rubberized tent to connect and bang, just like that you'd get a free room that packs up ricky tick.

Long story short:

It was a unique idea with a good base but while under development, changes and weight issues popped up causing the project to be sawzall (literally) practice.

Actually, we were all boo boo lipped about it - we wanted to see the end product!  Something happened mid cable stringing and Don snapped turning the Pre-rangers loose and he brings home a black prefab top that sits upon it still today. I suspect that he got tangled up in cables and canvas and the boys had to cut him free.......

Ok in all seriousness. You are looking for More space than a bed camper provides, try something more basic with a little more ease of use.  Taller ceiling, larger bed, multi use platform.   This is a link to an idea

Just trying to maximize the comfort of what I have because I like to tinker with used stuff I get. I need to be able to haul my boat behind the truck without looking like Tomas the tank engine going down the highway(I’d find a way to make that ugly lol). It’s a super clean 94 camper that was owned by a family that works on Campers for a living. It’s solid structurally inside and out and really doesn’t need anything other that personal preference, but I have a lady who wants certain colors of paint n fabric. Since I’m going to be doing all of that...I might as well mod it to best suit our needs. Picked it up for 2 knives and $150 cash. I got the 3500 24valve on a deal I couldn’t pass up also lol.
I pretty much have a rainbow shooting from my backside at the moment instead of the usual where I curl up in a ball, cry, fight for my whistle, and find my happy place.

Harv, this is how Dotting starts....

Dave, that trailer is not too far from me.  Pretty cool little project.  If I had a place to park it covered I'd consider snatching it up just  because.  A friend and I are talking about getting into adventure biking and that would be a cool way to travel with a couple of bikes.
Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.
