My garage is about the same dimensions as the 30x50.  It’s not big enough.

What do tour house plans look like? Anyway to tie the two structures together?

JR, my former shop was 44 x 88 and it was ideal imo for overall sq ft. I wouldn’t build less that 2400 sq ft again. I’m at 1200 currently and we’ll it’s not ideal. It is easier to heat though, my next one on acreage may be a large hip with a wing either side. Center area will be high ceiling first floor for big equipment storage and 2 post. Then the wings will allow for wood shop in one side and machine shop on the other side and have covered outside firewood storage at one end under the wing. This way I can heat one area at a time. That’s my dream shop and always wanted it setup like that.
Unretired, sweeping floor at GLO once again & making coffee.

Sounds like you already know what size you want.  You won't have too much space.

Would you guys rather have a deep shop or a wide shop?

Pending on which direction you put doors I mean.

My yard (RV pad) is set up so I have to stack things into the yard.  The trailer in the front has to be moved to get to second trailer.   Similar thought with a shop? Lots of doors but not very deep or really deep with fewer doors? Of course you could do doors on bother front and back for a pull through

Thoughts. Reasonings?

I think the answer to your question Dave is 'both'. Maybe have 2 or 3 doors on the long side for parking single vehicles/trailers/access to a lift, but also a single door on each short end for a pull through when you want the whole rig to remain connected and covered -- depending on how much room you have.

I’ll have to figure out the cost value of doing that vs lumber/brick n mortar. Are garage doors cheaper than finished exterior?

I know the doors are no where near as insulated as a wall.

Was dealing with all the power issues this AM. Utility turned off power last night for supposed high winds today. Winds are blowing now, power came back on!

Yes, bigger is better. Drive through I thought of, but think the smaller roll up will work fine along with the big main door.

What do you think?

Quote I am looking at has insulated doors, windows and covered ceiling.

Will insulate myself, ply the inside walls with metal above the 8' ply.

It gets down below freezing. Probably a tad colder than Reno/Sparks.

Nothing is solid on the house yet. Found out the pole barn place is not delivering to NV right now (darn Texans).

Trying to find a local company maybe in Id or Wa but like the homes seems all are back east.

The green dashes are big doors, 8x8 on the side by the house and 10x12 on the end for other things.

Went for a quick trip Sat to tear down the cheap HD shelve unit. Building custom but got there to late for that.

Cleaned up the road some and brought down my 5500watt gen to help with stuff. Brought the 2k Wen home. Brought up a husky work table the works great for the new HF Admiral 12in compound sliding miter saw ($169 on sale)

Then I played with the Anafi drone. Norm is right, one sweet drone. Took about 10 minute to really setup and I got some extra cables for it.

Did a couple overviews of the prop getting used to it. Even marked out the pad area on a screen shot. Stable as heck and when done, just hit the return to home!

OK, so now with the plans back in and looking at "barns/workshops" I am trying to decide what size to go with. Remember my pad is 100x100 now and I want a house on it too. Sure I can massage that a little.

I have always wanted a 40x60, but do I really need that big? Would 30x50 work? You guys who have shops, what do you think or want? I have decided on 14ft walls for a 10x12 door. I want a lift in there in the long run. Also plan on awnings down both sides plus the container

Price diff is not all that much, little under $20 for a 30x55 and little north of $20 for the 40x60. That's no floor or awning but windows and doors. Here's a snapshot of what I have designed online. Place is out of Tx.

I don't care how big of one you build it will never be big enough. Personally I would go for the 40x60. Put in a hydraulic door then you don't need an awning.
first picture is our shop with a Higher Power aircraft door. 42 wide x 23 tall.  https://www.hpdoors.com/  They are pricey but well built. Puts zero stress on the building. 1/3 of the door rolls into the building like the old solid wooden garage doors. If you park too close it will pick up the front end of a diesel pickup truck.

Second pic is our warehouse. I don't remember how wide it is but its12 ft tall. Its a Power lift. Way cheaper than Higher Power but it does pull on the building a little bit. They say it don't but that is incorrect. https://powerliftdoors.com/ I like both of them equally. The Power lift fits closer to the ceiling for maximum clearance. This one cost $18,000 installed.

That's the farm shop. 80x80 with 24 ft ceiling. The only reason we went so tall is because the John Deere dealer in town built thier set up shop that tall. Equipment just keeps getting bigger all the time.  The front walk in door is actually inside the big door.

I have been looking at buildings a lot over the last few months, I was planning on a 60x100 but finding a good builder has been challenging to say the least.

Most builders only want to do one thing IE one will only want to put up the structure and they dont want to do anything else. Ie spetic, power, plumbing, inside finish work. I hate farming work out to several different contractors, if there is ever a problem they always point the finger at the other person.

I dont mind investing in a good quality build, but it hard finding a builder that is NOT used to working with someone that wants everything cheap.

My next search will be contractors that build for the equipment dealers or Aircraft hangers.

Now that's a good question! (can you say upkeep)

Now a plane could land on the farm, right?

Ultralight has crossed my mind for the Ridge.
