I've lived long enough

Think I'd pray, mention that I'll Be there in a few and open that bottle of Jack a Seal gave me

Wish you all luck, lock and load, and buy the wife five more minutes...
And there you go....

How many items does the travel trailer count as? Grab the passports and other paper work in that bag. Couple things that go bang and the stuff that make them go bang. Fishing setups and some lures. Water bottles from the garage and the water purifier. Day pack  for hunting and hiking includes (compass, maps, fire starter, gas stove, first aid, space blankets, etc). Already have clothes, boots, first aid, knives, field glasses etc in the truck.

I think you're at like 300ish......

I was afraid of that. Oh well. Can't store anything off site as it would be growing mushrooms in a couple weeks. So I guess it's stay and fight at first then bend over and kiss it all goodbye. ADDED, Oh wait the RV is already at the camping lot so.....Other than heading to AZ and the heat, we are good to go.

I looked at a couple deals like that before I ended up with the jeep I now have. Just don't care to take on the work any more, or listen to someone telling me to clean up the mess all the time.

My trailer has a scissors lift which is rated higher than the GVW of the trailer. Attachment points on the underside of bed are quite wide and beefy, and it has a large cylinder with power up only. It has raised every load that has been put on it and a few were a bit/lots over the weight limit. The advantage of a power up only system is the battery will provide many more cycles before needing recharged. I have spread many loads of gravel and never once did the bed not come down on its own when only dumping a partial load.  Hinge pins need to be strong and kept greased and not allowed to become sloppy, or trouble is in the works. Yes, a multi use end gate is a very important feature. I have seen broken or bent cylinders on trailers that used a pair, they do have to extend farther and are subject to more stress. Am sure there are stronger built ones that hold up fine, but there are some pretty weak dump trailers out there.

I think the lift system and how it attaches to the bed is if not the most important very close to  the top of the list. You do not want anything lifted high in the air to be flopping around while trying to dump or spread. Not the best to have the whole thing laying on its side or worse just the bed laying on its side.

Hide Site / Re: Hide Site/Bug-out location Construction, Part 4

My dump trailer is an ABU, it has a heavy duty lift system which helps on uneven ground. Mine is only 6ft wide inside, just a couple inches too narrow to haul my jeep around. It is wide enough for the Kubota tractor.  Many good brands out there, but some not so good so look them over good.

Stake pockets on the dump trailers allow for many different side heights and heavy duty bull rings welded into the floor allows good tie down points. Barn doors are ok but if you can get a combination door set up it is much better including the ability to spread gravel and dirt.

Dump trailer, way better than a dump truck. I have the 14,000lb and it gets used all the time. Less maintenance cost for the normal person maybe not Don. If you are dumping lots in a day, you might need another battery but for normal use one does the job.

Vinegar is an effective weed killer too.

Just throw it in a pump sprayer and have at it? does it just kill everything?

Tate, what is the target, and where are you trying for control?

Don't use roundup Don. Just take a big weed burner torch and burn around the well. It will all die. Stay chem free as much as you can
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Along those lines, when you start getting the regrowth after burning, spray till wet  with a heavy rate of bleach in water. Cover the area with black plastic or heavy tarp material until you get the pad poured around it.
As long as you can protect the opening of the well, you could treat the adjacent area with glyphosate (round-up) as it ties up readily in the soil and breaks down very fast and would not create any problems for the well. Just be sure to stay back away from the well by whatever the distance the  label calls for.

What are you building? / Re: Our House
« on: August 02, 2017, 11:49:00 AM »

Dang, your builder is the real deal if he's screwing down, on a 6" schedule to boot. That's unheard of around here to be honest, unless you're paying big money. Happy you got a good one!

My folks are building a house right now, and their builder could be related to yours lol. He refuses to use OSB, and only uses #1 grade lumber. Pretty crazy, bit overkill if you ask me... cost for CDX vs OSB and #1 vs 2 and better is approaching double

Congrats on your progress, keep us updated with more pics!

And the stamped  #2 or better now was considered utility or scrap not so many years ago

Tate, are you just trying to make points with someone on here? Does look good though

1421
Kyle, I think the biggest problem you had with heat was doing 60 going up the pass. Your truck should handle your new 2nd home just fine. It was most likely a warm day, and just because the fan came on doesn't mean it was getting too hot. I used to pull that hill with a 2007 6.0 and 32 ft. 10,000lb RV. The only problem was the noise the needle on the gas gauge made as it fell toward empty. Having the engine brake will be nice, makes towing a much better experience for sure.

Throwing stuff might be ok if you are just trying to buy enough time for the trained staff to be able to take deadly action

1423

I like it! Looks very clean for the miles!

That is exactly what I thought. Went over to the dealer just to see what was out there for the money. Miles were right, just had brakes redone, everything seams to work [ right now anyway], sounded good, no rattles or noises while going down the road, and no big dings or dents. Decided no use looking any further, made an offer, and next thing I knew we were headed home.

1424
Nice upgrade, you will really enjoy the extra space. Having 80 gallons of space for water is nice for the big one they are saying to get ready for.

If you still have problems with the water moving too fast and cutting into the rock or driveway, you can add a few V shaped check dams to help slow it down. Just be sure to keep the height of the checks lower than the top half of swale and armored areas. Lots of work but better than fighting water problems when it is pouring out.

1426
Kind of a wild color for me, but should be easy to find if I get to far away. It is a one owner rig, has undercoating and good paint underneath, and appears to have been well maintained. A whole new way to go, but should work out fine. I have a carrier that fits the trailer hitch in case I get lucky and need extra room to get something out. A shot of coming down the hill last year with the camp trailer in tow.

1427

Well, brought one home today. Not a Rubicon but does have 3:73 gears and just under 50,000 miles. Really nice shape as far as I can tell. They wanted top dollar so had them include a new set of tires, and another key fob.
Thanks again for all the help, this is new to me

1428

Bob- I'm in the car business. if you need any help just reach out to me and I would be happy to get you book values/vehicle history reports..heck I even have a few jeeps for sale in the company if you weren't planning on buying private party.
I sent a note your way, thank you for the offer to help

1429
Thank you all for the input, I feel better about the auto tranny now. Don't know if a Rubicon is in the works or not but shall see what is out there. Thanks also for the thoughts and prayers, it is what it is, and is in Gods hands. Could have been much worse, but if I had followed the guidelines and kept up with the colonoscopy schedule maybe wouldn't be going through it at all.

Ken, I am kind of leaning toward the automatic if for nothing else, that seams to be what is more of out there. Like I said above however, manual is what we had back many years ago and they worked well. I can add another tranny cooler to help with the heat up of the fluid but by mid Oct. up here anyway it gets a bit chilly. Usually have to scrape the frost from the windows before leaving in the mornings and sometimes for the return trip to camp in the evenings. I might however just be hunting from the rig watching the ridges and cuts from the wide spots and landings. I have good glasses and a 300 mag. so at least I won't need to resupply for a new hunting style. There is a horse packer/ guide service down the river so if needed I can hire help to get one out if I can't get close enough to pack it out myself.

1433
Ok, well I have always just used my 2500 GMC to get to where I want to hunt BUT...Between the brush and trees narrowing up the roads, wash outs and such I am looking into a 2 door jeep wrangler. That and the fact I just went through colon cancer surgery, so not sure I can run the ridges like I used to. Need some help from the group. Since I used to drive the one tracks with my truck which is an auto, and since most of the newer jeeps around here for sale are auto what if any problems would be with an auto tranny hunting jeep? Back in the day, I had a manual jeep, but back then that's what they were. Is the auto tranny that mopar is using in the jeep wrangler strong enough, I won't be rock climbing or mud running, just using it for a hunting rig in 4 high and maybe running to the store between hunting seasons. It will either be new or at least under 50,000 miles if used.

Nice work on the culvert ends. You going to set a post near the inlet so you can find it if debris get it plugged up? Be a shame to rip it out trying to find it with the tractor.

Those hydrants have break away valves so not too much harm comes to the driver who runs one over. Problem we had at work was the water companies or their contractor always wanted to plant a large concrete post in front of them to protect them from traffic.

Don, you now have just about every piece of ground clearing equipment you need. Choose wisely and just maybe the stuff will hold up a bit longer. Now that you can widen the entrance road, buy  gravel delivered. Much cheaper than trying to maintain a dump truck.

I am betting off road diesel in your storage tank is sounding better all the time.
Well...No one wants to come in and fill it for a reasonable cost. Best I have found so far is 1.90/gal once I complete a mountain of paperwork

Just get busy on the paperwork, it is just big brother making sure you really need the stuff.  That my friend is a whole bunch of 5 gal. cans. Maybe find a guy with a fuel cell in the back of his truck to come fill it for you.  Until you get the paperwork finished, draw a permit for the tank, and the inspection to be sure you really need it etc. a fuel cell most likely your best option.
