Yeah, next week I start framing the shed dormer over the stairwell and then the end walls and barge rafters.  I made a mistake on the rafters which will require me to cut the tails again.  I failed to account for a sub facia board and I need the nailing surface for the hardi soffit.  No big deal, just a bit of a hassle.  My hope is after next weekend I'm ready to start sheathing the roof.

Ran some new pvc drain lines the other day so the downspouts at the new house didn't just dump all this weekends rain right at the side of the foundation. It was satisfying to see how much water was shooting out the end of the pipes during the heavier rains.  Makes me wonder how much it has been undermined previous to me doing it. Next week while it's cooler out and I have some time, I'll be burying the lines.
Also moved a big old cedar that I had cut down that was too close to the house. I didn't feel like cutting it up and then having to drag it all off for now. Once I'm able to get a tractor with a loader on it/grapple, I can take it apart and clean it up much easier. I chained it up to the blazer and drug it a couple hundred yards to the other end of the field.
Went to the old house and replaced deck boards and hand rails to get it ready for sale.

Tiling........

Back in Indiana we tiled from our house & upper yard to our pond. About 6 different 4" runs & it kept the 3.5 acre pond filled usually until late July or early August when it would stop raining heavy enough & would start to lower. So yeah, you need a pond next!

Well we had a fun weekend. Son called about 10:30 Saturday night after a storm went through. Tree in his yard came down and pulled the service right off the house!!

Tree was still in the high line so we called power company and central dispatch because it was in the road, didn't want anyone to stop and try to move it not knowing it was in the wires. When fire department got there to block we went and bought my generator over and hooked up.
Spent Sunday cleaning up and calling insurance company, still trying to get adjusters out today to get the ball rolling.

Spent another day on the phone with insurance company trying to get time set up for the adjuster to come out. They're busy I understand but you want to be top of the list but that doesn't always happen. On a good note our agent recommend a company called Belfor Property Restoration our contact guy called and met me right after work then called later in the evening to make sure we didn't have any more questions! Got his cell number and told he will talk to insurance in the morning and call me back by 11 am! You don't see old fashioned service like that much anymore! Told my son to keep any receipts for gas for the generator and how many hours we had in clean up because they would have to sent a tree company out so they can take that off his deductible. Then talking to younger son told him about this company and he laughed at me and said Dad we fly the owner of the company! And that he's very hands on kind of guy and down to earth, I never heard of this company but he said they're all across the country. It's a small world sometimes!

It did serve as a reminder to winterize the water system.
Which I did. Turns out the plastic totes drain to nearly nothing.
As in ounces.
Made getting the plumbing antifreeze into the system a breeze.
Drained tank dry.
Added 5 Gallons of antifreeze, pumped it in to colour change at pressure tank line.
Drained off the mixed water/antifreeze.
Repeated a second time to get most water gone.
Pumped in the remainder, and distributed it throughout the cabin.
I did put in a hot water tank bypass like in an RV, so 5 gallons was perfect.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

Took apart the p trap under the kitchen sink, never ceases to amaze me what 4 women can manage to put down a sink drain. Today it was 2 little 1/8" diameter pieces of steel around 4" long. Fortunately they were long enough not to clear the trap but then nothing else would either.........

I hear you. I have never seen wads of hair like come out of our shower drain. I can't count the times the toothpast cap has gone down the sink drain.

Other wise the sate is on fire. Soot everywhere, schools closed, towns on fire, neighborhoods gone!

I've used Bosch and NKG. NGK had the terminal nut, Bosch didn't. FWIW, a box of 100 M4 or whatever they are is a few bucks, if you can't get individual. Make sure you have a spare nut for each before it's too late.
Couldn't say one better than the other.

When I replaced the injectors on the LB7 I busted off the corroded stud that transmitted power to all of the right side glow plugs.  Went through 2 Wisconsin winters with only the left side working.  Never had an issue with it firing up, and those 2 winters were very cold.

Framing the dormer is slow work. Trying to figure it out as I go.
This is going to be a 4:12 pitch

We just won playoff game number 2, 28-6.

The pre-ranger was playing with that fractured arm in the cast. There was a spectacular block/tackle in the 1st quarter. A player went airborne, did a flip then hit the dirt. I saw him start to get up, then just collapsed. Everyone took a knee while the medic and coaches and refs evaluated. I was scanning the players looking for my little guy, but I wasn't seeing a #41 anywhere.

Sure enough it was my boy. He took one heck of a shot and I'm told he has bruised ribs. He says it is hard to breath because of the pain. This is the same kid who had a dog almost tear his arm off, like 70% detached according to the surgeons, and the kid who ripped the skin off his eyebrow. I was looking at the muscle talking to my neighbor, a doctor on the phone. ""Yep, I can see straight through, like a 3 centimeter hole." "Ok, bring him over, we'll stitch it up."

This kid is prequalifying for the Ranger school in middle school it seems. I think he is as hard on his body as I am on equipment!

All he can talk about is playing in the superbowl next weekend.

May want to check that. 4:12 is almost flat. (run x rise vs rise x run) Looks more like 12:12

I seen a friend of mine on Facebook was canning meat last week. That reminded me that my pantry is dangerously low. So I'm cleaning out the freezer today. Canning a bunch of pork. Half a dozen pork roasts from 11/15 got forgotten about in bottom of the farms freezer. I expected them to be bad but I only had to trim a little bit off. I also have a big ole pot of chicken stock simmering. Whenever I cut up a chicken for fried chicken I keep the carcass for stock or soup. I had a few taking up room.
This is much more fun than going to the gun show in town. That's what I keep telling myself.

Getting ready to close up the cabin for winter.
Got one more weekend I'm guessing.
Load tested the original batteries, and as suspected they're shot.
Pulled them out of the battery box, and rebuilt it to hold eight golf cart batteries, instead of four.
The next time I'm out, at the end of the month, I'll be getting another four.
That will put me at 450 amp hours at 24 volts. Nearly 10 kWH.

With any luck that will minimize generator use for winter.
We've had a few inches of snow again this weekend, and I had to start it up.
I'm at about four hours run time since March, so it's been a great success so far.
I'm hoping that double battery capacity will keep the run time down through the dark of winter.

I'm also looking to pick up a 24 volt windmill to supplement the solar.
Kind of dropped the ball and forgot to do that while it was nice.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

Getting ready to close up the cabin for winter.
Got one more weekend I'm guessing.

Very interesting watching this alternative power working out...Especially since I'm building one myself in the not too distant future.

Well. Framing the dormer tool a lot longer than I thought.  45 degree angle meeting up with 71.5.

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Well it was a busy week last week. Spent Thursday and Friday at jury duty, made it to the second round but didn't get picked for the jury. Was a first for our County, a double murder to outsiders by outsiders!  A Craigslist dope deal goes bad!  Then still fooling around with Insurance company and contractors Service is in but the electrical inspectors don't work on Fridays   so they are supposed to be out today then we can call power company to run new lines and get him some power, only been 9 days!!
Also still working inside the basement redoing the mortar on the rock foundation.

Its a spectacular machine!
If you're purchasing a Tiger, I'd highly suggest the XCA for creature comfortnessabilityism.
I have ridden it with the local BMW club where they take spirited (on road) 100-150 mile weekend jaunts through the rolling countryside. I can easily bend that bike around any corner any other bike can take. There is one other Tiger, a couple of the Kawas a this or that and a host of every possible BMW model.
On one ride the guy with the Kawasaki was behind me. THe ride rule is if you stop seeing the guy behind you, then you must stop. Same/same as a turn. Wait until he/she has vis on you, then proceed. On this ride the kawa guy went gone. Turned out one of his panniers fell off!!!!!!!
I like Kawasaki's. They are good bikes, just like Chevys are good reliable cars. But they pale by comparison to a Mercedes which the Triumph clearly is. It owns that class of motorcycle.
Mine delivers around 50 mpg which means considering the 6+ gallons of petrol and a lunch break, makes for a good day of riding. It is like butter coated silk for smoothness. I have never ridden a bike so smooth. Triumph was amongst the earliest of motorcycles, some years before Harley even! Steve McQueen rode one, (So did Marlin Brando in the classic movie "The wild ones"). It is classic the world over. ANd it's a triumph.
The .303 british enfield is classic...Ever hear anything about anyone shootin' a jap 6.5 or 7.5 or whatever that forgettable thing was?
Not that I'd be opinionated or anything.
Nuff said  ;-))
