You make me look like I'm sleeping. Wish I lived on site!

Agreed, 140+ days gone off site last year. It’s much easier when you live here. Although the wife is taking up valuable time now…..
Oh...Son...
You better rethink the way you just said that...
Thinkin like that and you're headed for a world of trouble...
some I know has some experience in this area...

Thanks Big D, between weather and getting shop back making money this will slow down a bit soon. Quite a few projects in the pipeline. In addition we have a week in Yellowstone at fishing bridge campground (only campground with full hookups in the park) we booked a year ago coming up. Looking forward to checking out for a week. Doing some hiking, finishing a book and just checking out.

Got back yesterday afternoon from a week of camping in Yellowstone. The chickens are getting big and need their outside run. Wife and I did a lumber yard trip this morning and commenced building what will be a steel covered 4’ x 8’ run. This was around 5pm today.

Tell me about how you took care of the chickens while gone for a week?  Automation? Friends helping?  Curious.

Charles, there are good automation solutions out there and many made from pvc diy that are easy and good for several days at a time. You have the benefit of warm climate so easier in winter months. Probably can also wire up auto shutters for ventilation.

We’re planning on pvc diy feeders in the future. This trip my good retired lineman neighbor kept the bees fed with sugar water and fed / watered the chickens. We’re actually raising a couple more chickens for them with our new brood. So it’s a win win……

Yes weasels and mini love chickens.
As do foxes and many others, these ones easier to spot.

Good luck keeping him out or catching.

I built two of these today in about 15 minutes for $6 total.

https://youtu.be/viwQZwRFNlk?si=ayGsHJu90CSnJDNV

As I was finishing building them the neighbor texted he had the correct rat traps ordered from Amazon, lol. I then took his box over to him, he was not aware I was building them. I had sent him the video the day before. Home Depot did not have the correct rat traps in stock. So it all worked out. He has a white weasel that he has yet to catch. I’ll keep you all updated on our hunting.

Started hanging low bay ceiling by myself. The room is approximately 12’ wide, with the use of a  16’ 2x4 I can put one end up and walk the other end up and hang it in the perimeter channel.

I put one end of the steel panel up on the 2x4 then walk to opposite end of steel panel and walk up the ladder with it. I then while standing on ladder stick that far end of panel into the perimeter trim piece. This allows me to then be able to secure it to rafters with sheet metal screws.

Finished up the afternoon working on the chicken run. Need to build a door, install the steel roof and wire mesh fencing. I’m going to bury hardware cloth inside at the bottom to keep critters from digging their way in. Tomorrow I’m picking up more crushed gravel to put around exterior of run and coop.

Yeah JR, I get it. I’m tired too. Hauling stone this morning so that’s a bit easier sitting on my hind end.

I tested out one of three led saucer lights I bought off a local guy who helped set my trusses. I don’t have much in them but I decided yesterday they will not be going in low bay area of the shop. Just not enough light output. I may hang them under rear exterior rv area just for some minimal light at night should I need it ever.

So I ordered this from my favorite led online light source. The working area is roughly 20’ x 10’ in there once I hang & set cabinets and work benches etc. so I think this will work well.

I put these in my garage and attic maintenance areas. They work well.  Only have a year on them so far personally. They are available in different sizes.

Almost have the chicken run complete. Waiting on a piece of ridge cap to show up & need to back fill crushed gravel around the base of the coop and run yet. Then finish wiring up the auto dusk to Dawn door and build them a ramp.

I live in a log cabin, I stick built both the machine shop and the big shop. They both have regular house type foundations under them. Both of those are house wrapped which is where I got last fall and left for winter. Now I’m adding rear rv lean to and rear covered entrance to big shop. Will be adding a board and batton steel siding that is painted to match the existing board and batton pine exterior garage.

I have been wiring and insulating mainly, the hexagon led light showed up. Directions say to assemble and test before hanging so I did then you have to disconnect it in sub sections to hang as it’s fairly flimsy. I zip tied it up temporarily, going to use sheet metal screws for a permanent installation (technically both are valid options for ceiling mounts). I’m really happy with the light output. It’s not overpowering like the high Bay Area. In addition it is dimmable using a regular light switch and quickly turning off and on to change between three programmed settings.

I ordered water heater, bathroom fan and light combo along with a cadet wall heater. Installed a frost free outside faucet.

I disconnected power to the shop and finished wainscoting. The re-attached the LB box and powered back up.

First of steel board and batten siding gets picked up in the AM.

Progress….

#8 x 2” long pan head sheet metal screws allowed me to get it mounted to the corrugated steel ceiling. Used provided zip ties to hang it from a few eye hole screws temporarily until I could go back and screw each joint to the ceiling. Worked well, $400 delivered so not inexpensive but not super expensive either.

Started hanging the illegal steel board & baton siding today. I say illegal because I didn’t ask permission. Kind of my middle finger at the developer. It’s within his rules as filed with county. He had just stated at one point I couldn’t steel side my shop.

End of the third day. Need to finish up some trim pieces in the morning. All the panels I ordered are up now. I ended up trimming every panel by 3/8” as they cut them 3/8” long. I gave them correct measurements not realizing they would do so.

I have black trim pieces that are 6” tall that I need to hang horizontally next at each gable end. This separates the upper triangle from the lower window and garage door section. Once that is done I can order steel for both ends.
