Yep, got her dusty quick.

Island is going to be 48x72 with a 8-10 overhang on the living room side. Built a frame from 2x3 studs, got cheap panels to cover it up.

Doors on 1 side only, no sink but some power for sure. It also has access to the crawl space. Some storage on the other side down the road maybe, but this is a good start.

I got two 36in base cabinets. One was a sink unit since I needed to mod it. I had to trim 4in off the back and make it go around the 6x6 pillar.

CS access was needed since the others were on the other end of the house passed the HVAC ducting.

Built a 3 layer door for the CS access, with a 1in overhang all around and a simple strap handle. Work great.

Got the cabinets in and some of the cheap paneling on, still have an AC vent to address and boy we need it now!

For the top I got a piece on particle board. Its cheap and got trim for the edges. I have not figured what I want for counters yet, maybe cement?

Layed a few more pieces of flooring, more tomorrow as I need the cabinets in to go from where I am.

All new cabinets, just not 5k worth! In one pic above you see into the rear of the old cabinets I tore off. Kitchen is from the 80s.

I knew kitchen was dated from prior pics, why I asked. What do you mean by the $5k remark?

Not spending 5k on cabinets. Much less sink, washer and a new range on top of that. Got a new SS fridge last year (family killed the old one with overstuffing closing all the venting) I think I can do it all for about 3K, but more work. All the cabinets will need a good sealing (wifey will not dry her hands) or clean them.

On that note, I finished the island, got the top on (particle board) but will need different edge molding now. Siding is temp on it too, but time will tell.

Got as much flooring down as I can until I get the new wall up in the kitchen. In the first pic the pantry wall facing us with the clock will be continued to the back of the house. Will move the current dishwasher (never used) for now and get a lower sink unit. That entails some plumbing but not bad. Just glad I have a limber 16 year old to do that now. Plus the access is right there so you don't have to crawl across the house everytime.

General comment: JR, you are one busy guy! There has never been any grass growing under your feet. I think your only competition on this site would come from Shawn or Sam (When he is not nearly frozen to death).
Seriously, you're:
Working on your house
Working on your garage
Building your sons S-10
Working on your Chevy Duramax truck
Continuously repairing the skid steer
Fixing the excavator
Adding to or repairing the backhoe
Building over at your mountain top new place
Buying or fixing any number of mills and other complex tools
Cleaning up stuff
Roofing
Trimming trees
Burning down garages
What else???

We installed some additional box cabinets in the cabin. Need to add some more, wife stained and sealed them before we brought them in the house, under my supervision of course. Other than her overloading the shelf brackets they’ve been great.

Layed some more flooring. At a stop there until sand a floor area down by the post.

I picked up some cabinets, sink lower and wall units. I am adding soft close slides to the drawers as I go.

So the wife and kids went for a little trip to Carmel. I was invited sort of, so I stayed home.

In the meantime I got a few base cabinets fit and the dishwasher moved. I will get a new washer but this has not been as my wife uses it for storage and does the dishes by hand no less than 10 rimes a day (huge waste).

Just got some ply on top now to get a feel for it and for a work area. Will put some uppers up soon. I am looking for a new range now, gas for sure. SS to match the fridge I got last year.

Did a little rewiring since I have no GFCIs in the kitchen, think they are wired via the one in the bathroom, crazy. Have some wall the rebuild as the old work box on the left tore it up. I ran a new #14 down under the sink as the old outlet there was DOA? Not to hard to pull and just sealed the opening up with sealant as it will be behind the cabinet.

Put up the upper cabinets. Need to move the right lower about 4inches to even it up with the upper. Also put the soft close hinges on the uppers, wow!

Went to Lowes and found a pantry and lower corner that were damaged and marked down Both are simple fixes saving me around $200.

Looking at countertops, they have laminate that looks like stone. Guess what I'm probably getting?

I clearanced the hatch today. It was catching on a piece I put in to reinforce the island cabinet I trimmed. Just needed to shave about 1/4 off, works fine.

This panel on the island faces the front door, it is now held on with magnets. When you pull off, you see the hatch (crawlspace access). This is now right under the kitchen and will really help with the plumbing and some wiring. It also allows access to this side of the house. Others are on the other side of the house and you have to go around the HVAC system to get here. So now I have 1 in a bedroom closet (easy access too) 1 in the back yard (hard to use) and the new one.

I also plan on placing a few cans down there with a few K of bang stuff in them. Easy access dry and cool. I have some food stash too, but sometimes we get critters down there so who knows.

For reff, the hatch is 32x24, about 3.5ft to the ground. Old foundation is about 4ft to the left running the width on the house.

Thinking of concrete. Longest run is 10ft so not terrible. Big thing would be the island.
