She's a keeper that's for sure. She nixed the original LMM I was driving for a while when economy dictated, but to be honest it was the right move. Now she felt like we could handle the costs better and I trust her judgment there; her mother was the fiscal specialist for the UW for 27 years.

Looks like no EGR for me, but that G80 is going to have to come out! Any other cool codes popping out at anyone that I should be aware of? Or is there a website where these codes can be deciphered?

found it: http://www.marshu.com/images-website/car/gm-firebird-camaro-rpo-car-door-manufacturer-codes/gm-firebird-camaro-GM-RPO-car-codes.pdf

Now that's the kind of stuff I'm looking for. I'll check the RPO codes tonight. Picking up Air and fuel filters this weekend as well as trans flush and oil change. I don't want to call it a "fluid change" and jinx myself. I heard something about the air horn intake swap, but I think that was in reference to an lly. This is an OH truck, so hopefully no EGR. Also, are there any bench tests for checking the oil for fuel in the case of bad injectors? Something about double rings on a paper towel? It has 238k on it. paid $12k. well, actually just traded in the denali, paid $2k in negative value and my payments are the same as before.

I have been off the diesel train for a few years now, but am getting back on here PDQ. I have very little free time so this will be slooooow going, but I'm excited to dive back in. The wife surprised me a while back by trading in the 04 Yukon Denali and my 01 Pontiac Sunfire commuter POS while I was away training some of my distributors. She of course got herself a little something, (05 Passat 1.8L turbo). I took delivery this last Friday before mother's day after they finished doing the work she requested on it: new tailgate, color matched the fender flares, new rear bumper, (old one had been hit lightly, but ugly), media blasting and rust treatment and new undercoating sprayed on. It was missing the center console cup holder so I picked up that little guy off ebay for $40.00. I'm going to be doing new tires pretty soon as they are mis-matched and fairly worn out. I have a little white/blue smoke after longer freeway runs. Nothing visible when underway but after running warm for a while and then coming to an intersection so I'm expecting an injector job in my near future, but other than that it runs and sounds great, has plenty of power and looks like 1st tank is going to net me an avg of 18mpg, hand calculated of course.

So, who here has/had similar vehicles, what can I expect to deal with down the road, some positive stories as well as the nightmares are welcome. Looking forward to getting my hands dirty ;D

I am confused by the return of the bench seat.  I thought that was planned to be installed in the bed facing rearward?  Did you really hate the "racing" style seats that much?
Yes, I did not like the racing seats. I couldn't get in the truck because of the leg bolsters and steering wheel interference. Next the rib bolsters are small, for some girly Honda driving man, not a full sized creatine enhanced guy like me. Then the angles were all goofy.

I'll retask them somewhere. And this project evolves...After I put the bench in the bed, I then decided, derrrr!, I need space for extra fuel!

Anyway, I'm happy now, the truck seems to like the arrangement as well!

Put Recaro seats out of a VW GTI in the wagoneer and hated them every day after. Good call on retaining the bench.

Or you could fulfill my dream and make a Wagoneer version of Square D. Square W.  8) Honestly my '72  had a points distributor, battery, motor, heater, radio, lights. All stripped down to simple wires w/ inline fuses, and simple relays. it was a full framed tank that went anywhere, seated 6 and had enough room in the engine compartment for two CBT's. Trimmed fenders and a simple spring over axle swap allowed for 35" tires w/ minimal lift, and in border states they are popular wheeling rigs w/ the Mexicans. (I sell them tons of parts for them). that's my $1.50 worth.

40SW is a solid round. Just as potent as a 45 with all the new loads. I also have a nice folding carbine for it that uses the same glock mags (oh and a Roni)

308 is great since you can still hit well out to 1000 yards and you don't need 2 shots like a 556. I also have 300AAC which is the AR in 308.

12ga is in a class of its own. Few other weapons can stop you with just the sound of it being racked.

JMHO

Exactly my opinion of the 12ga. Hopefully wife won't have to shoot anyone with that and the dog barking.

Tate you know if the bolts that hold the case halves together are special to the no-spin or? I am not sure I like how much bolt material has been removed for the safety wire.

So.... I could take the Dana 70 35 spline Detroit side gears, toss them in the 60 Detroit, and toss it in the front axle. Fairly sure they are the same between lockers except for spline count. Or I could take the Dana 70 Detroit and with a few aftermarket parts toss it in the front 60 along with the Dana 70 R&P thus having effectively a 70 front. Which might be the best approach given my ability to break most anything.

Any thoughts?

what year was your front end? you probably have 35 spline inners now and 30 spline outers. the bolts I believe are standard thread, grade 8. most likely able to be sourced at a hardware supply outfit. safety wire is cool and all, but I see what you're getting at. those holes are pretty big. And you have to line them up just right, which means that case better be machined like the space shuttle if the torque load is going to be even steven.

When my wife gets around to it and spends how ever long it takes her to go through all the Spicer books and find if possible what stuff fits, most all of it will be for sale. I will keep you guys in mind first for sure.

Ok Tate here you go...

If I don't have a Dana 70 Power Lock sitting on my shelf already from something 35 spline I will be bugging you about those side gears. Although I still really would prefer a Grizzly in front. Much as I like the Power Lok I don't like how it steers the front when running in 2x4 with the hubs locked. That's something I do a lot.

The above said, a Power Lok would be plenty of front diff for this application. It's not a rock crawler.

that is D60-354 as you said, and does in fact appear to be an older Detroit locker/no spin. Good find.

So I load the rims up and go to pay him and he asks if I need any 4x4 parts. So naturally I am interested so he takes me to this old building the roof is falling in on and it's so dusty and dark I could barely see. He says "it's all for sale"

A few things I acquired.  That's dust not rust....

The above are a 35 spline Dana 70 Detroit Locker and a Dana 60 Power-Lok 4.10 carrier/30 spline. The DL is brand new and the power_lok is according to the box a warranty replacement.

Also for those that know their axle junk we acquired this... anyone know? Tate no cheating  LoL

Next post....

I have a set of 35 spline internals for that powerlock, nudge nudge.

Now the one I am unsure of a bit is this one....

anyone??

that looks like either a late model dana 70 or d80 Track lock. it has the 4 pin design like the power lock and would be but the cross pins are fixed in the case. get me the number on the side of the ring gear; it will read like this. DANA X-12345. Or check splines on the axle side gears. 32, dodge d70. 35-37 d80.

check the flywheel & cam gear for tiny cracks at the valleys of the teeth. most common failure.

3021
I'm also an idiot and gave you the wrong part number on the limited slip. and you are also right in the fact that that you cannot run a grizzly with a Gov loc case, you would need a standard open case to put it in. YDGGM14T-3-30-1 is the right number on the Duragrip, but I was just informed they will not be available until mid June... cue "price is right loser music", wha wha wha wha, whaaaaaaaaaaaaa. at this time the eaton, EAT19689, (just like the duragrip) or the true trac, (like JR's front, TT 915A545) is available. or find yourself an open case, stick a grizzly in there and adjust your driving style to the locker.

3022
I just came across this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-10-5-14-Bolt-Chevy-Ring-Pinion-Gears-3-55-Ratio-Thick-14T-39-11-/281311020712

3.55 ratio R&P gears for a 10.5 inch 14 bolt...

incorrect. the photo is 14t, but 3.55 was never an option for that axle. either a miscount on the teeth, 41-11 is 3.73, 41-12 is 3.42, 41-10 4.10 etc. or he has used a stock photo of a 14t, 10.5 and confused his diff. GM's ran 10.5 dana 70 hd's as well and dealers will often tell customers that they have a "10.5" and the customer then assumes 14t, not 10 bolt dana 70hd. I would contact the seller and verify tooth count and pilot brg jrnl at the end of the pinion gear prior to ordering.

Easter dinner with my in-laws. Cyndie's dad is Egyptian Coptic, (read catholic cranked up to max volume) so it was a big day for them. Did this 9lb leg of lamb from Sylvana Meats with garlic slices stuffed into the meat and rubbed with oregano, rosemary, thyme, lemon zest, sea salt and black pepper and olive oil. Cooked to med rare around 2.5hrs and served with mashed potatoes, roasted broccoli with cheese and almond crust cheese cake. Can't tell you when I've had so many positive things said about my cooking from him. Apparently I did better than his mother.  8)

Cauliflower crust grilled cheese w/ Colby jack. Tomato soup was also on the menu but that came out of one of them fancy boxes.
Please tell me more.  Sounds like you are adhering to a low carb diet.  I am as well.  How did you make the crust out of califlower??

I'm moving to el paso.

It's work. grated head of cauliflower into rice sized pieces, blended w/ mozzarella and parmesan, garlic powder and Italian seasoning. The grated cauliflower gets cooked off in the microwave and then used a tea towel to squeeze out the extra water. mixed in the above mentioned and added a couple eggs till I got a decent texture, and about a 1/4 cup of coconut flour. I'll get the whole recipe posted up when I get home from work, but you take that mix, form bread shaped pieces on parchment, bake it off at 425* for about 15 min until golden, cool, and then assemble and grill as you would with any grilled cheese.

I'm doing the Omnitrition program. went from 193-168.2 in 21days. I'm on the way more fun maintenance phase now, but still zero carbs or sugars or processed meats. my wife lost 61lbs since Christmas.

And you'd still be 745 miles away from Houston....rofl

so here are a few pics of the mouthwatering smoked chuck roast.  I started this at 0630 this morning, the smoke got shut off at 1030-1100, finished cooking in the pot until 1600 (mountain time).  good smoke ring and I finally learned about the coveted blue smoke!

1. the rolls that tracey did to make chuck roast sammies

2. the bacon wrapped potatos

3. the chuck roast after 3 hrs of smoke and going into the pot.

4. the chuck roast smoke ring

5. plated and ready to eat!

As good as everything looks, I would demolish that whole batch of rolls. just sit on the couch with a plate of butter and glass of milk and watch speed channel.

I also choose D. 3.55 is not an option for the rear, 3.73's are ideal for 33" up to 35" for the CTB depending on trans obviously, but I offer you a new option as well: YDGGM11.5-30-1 a classic limited slip option just assembled last week by our group here in WA. smooth street driveability with high performance nodular casting, 8320 forged internals and raebestos clutches. no governor to blow up, but still a limited slip, so not as much traction and brute strength as the grizzly. I'm not as good putting the pros and cons list together but there you have my $0.02

Shame on the lousy, new age millennial narcissistic parents, Shame on the photographer for not speaking out before it became what it was, rather than waiting for the sensationalized photo op. I applaud the Veteran in the wheel chair in the bottom right for keeping his demeanor and not lashing out at them as would be his well deserved right. I am saddened that the question even needs to be posited; "Innocent or insensitive?". There is no question. This should have  been a bonding parenting moment to teach a child about our history and hero's, our country and many sacrifices made to maintain it. Instead they were probably more concerned about uploading instagram and facebook pictures of their kids on their vaca.

« on: March 20, 2015, 09:44:43 AM »
My good friend LT Tony Frye flew the AWACS on the Nimitz class Abraham Lincoln. when I was about 14 or 15, he came by for a dinner with his family and ours and showed us a little home video. I may get some details wrong here so don't beat me up too bad, but they were out on maneuvers and had a LOT of leftover ord. he had at LEAST a full half hour of the best water/fireworks show I have ever seen, in person or on film. At the end of the video, you could hear a lot of the crewmen whooping an hollering like crazy until the jet engines completely destroyed the mic on his camcorder as two navy jets performed a supersonic fly by, so close that when the sound barrier was broken, the shock wave buckled a portion of the wall of the ship, sending a rivet flying across the cargo bay where the planes were stored, luckily missing everyone inside. Come to find out, then Capt. now Adm. Robert F. Willard was a fan of this sort of thing and didn't mind the incident. He piloted the Mig28 in a lesser known 80's movie, Top Gun I think it was called... I guess the pattern wasn't full in this case.

Ok, but the 14bt I have now is 67. If I add the drw hubs I get a 72in wms to wms, right?

But if I have spacers and have to run a standard H1 wheel I can, leaving the front and rear as is at 67in (+ the spacers) for a 72in wms. if I recenter the wheels.

Maybe I am making this harder than it needs be, thats why I am asking.

I am just a little concerned about running spacers all the time. They are alum, but so are many wheels. However they are billet vs cast for the wheels. 2 more spacers will run me $70. 5 centers run about $250, plus the work to mount em, maybe machine to true em up too.

Have you re-centered any Norm?

I'm concerned. 14T 10.5" with the removable pinion support started it's long sordid history with GM in 1972. '67 would have been an HO72 with a 3rd member style dropout like a 9" ford that removes from the front half of the housing. In the words of "Fat Bastard" spacers are "crap" and are sketchy at best reliability wise. Didn't you spend some time with Uncle Les in your youth learning about the pitfalls of wheel spacers?

Really just curious about the '67 14bt comment. and with the qty of comments already posted since that one, it may have already been addressed and maybe I'm just a little crazy.
