I have long thought that the most effective tool of Satan is a father who has been turned (away) from God and his obligations and his family
If Satan can destroy the man, then the family...the whole family will surely family

That means that we men are going to be under attack. We are going to garner attention from the evil one because if he gets us, he gets the wife, the daughter, the son, and maybe even some adult parents as well.

So we, men, must lock arms, and stand firm on the word of God. Stand together and for our little part, Not give one dam inch to Satan. Stand with me!

Whatever you do, don't write "Logged" on the duty log under actions taken.  Hope you have an uneventful night.
Figures

I used to write "Logged" all the time

Figures...Well, I'm an officer, is that a good enough excuse?

And all of that took me an afternoon, all the time I had to bumperize today. That's the end of build day 272

This is only the flat face of the bumper. Above it will be a 2" 45 degree plate, then a top plate. I will add in a 1/4" horizontal rib and a bottom flange or skirt as well, so this is by no means the finished appearance

Then I assembled several pieces together to start to form in the wings. I bench fitted and welded them first, then welded them to the D-ring plate

Like walking into a big windy warm blanket.

Unless you are wearing a parachute and other items. Or you're in the exhaust overseas and you're already sweating like crazy, then it's just annoying.

Just got an update

It's not good

Her lung functions are going downhill and she now has a higher liver and kidney function (Falling)
The doctors are now considering paralyzing her completely so that the machines can do all the breathing and whatever for her to free up what energy her body still has.

An intercessory prayer warrior, a woman from church is showing up there at 1500 to anoint her with oil and pray over her. Others are coming as well.

Keep praying for Andrea!

The British accent makes him smarter......
I like it better on the ladies than the guys

There was a British base about 75 miles away from Kandahar, Bastion. The AC tower voice was British female. Such a sweet sound when turning off the battle push and switching over to the tower to report "Inbound."

Those sleeves would make everything green. We used to dry off behind the tanks as we walked by.

Nothing beats an aircraft exhaust

Like walking into a big windy warm blanket.

Now I have a little story here. You see for many years I stood around in the exhaust plume of my aircraft while at idle and refueling on some bitter cold winter day. It would warm you all up and you'd be all happy (Probably hypoxiated as well!)

So Big Don grows up and becomes an airline pilot flying jets
First thing I notice is the APU (Auxiliary power unit) exhaust. It is a small gas turbine which runs a generator and powers the aircraft packs, which heat and cool the air, pressurize aircraft and things like that. Well this thing is noisy and a fair bit larger than the engine in an OH-58!

Well for years that was all good and dandy. Then one cold winter night we pull into Washington Regan on the river. The APU is inop, so we just leave the no.2 engine running at flight idle.
Now no one really impressed me with the fact that the helicopter gas turbines use the engine to power stuff that propels the helicopter in flight. But turbofans on a passenger jet, well they just make a whole lot of thrust. That jet of mine made 14,400 lbs on each side.

On this particular cold winter night all I am thinking is I'll preflight walking down the left side and into the APU exhaust and get warmed up. I was wearing my black pants, white shirt and my leather flight jacket. You know, leather is worn by bikers because it handles abrasions really well, like when you fall off your bike or walk into the exhaust of a jet engine, times like those.

So I move out of the wonderfulness of the APU exhaust, cross under the tail and sort of start skiing across the ice on the ramp when all of a sudden the fuel truck goes racing past me. But the fuel truck is parked...It's me that is moving! For a second, maybe two on my feet, then on my butt, then back until I come to a stop maybe a hundred or so feet later.

The exhaust from that engine may only exert a few pounds of force per square inch, but I am a lot of square inches, and since I'm usually around 240ish and I did 0-60 in like 4 seconds, I'm guessing that exhaust hit me with a literal ton of pressure. I immediately understood how that 75,000 pound jet could climb out with the nose pitched up 20 degrees or more and still accelerate!

And right there, the bumper is all done!

I'll clean and undercoat it tomorrow!

Or I'll call this about 25% complete and drive on, one or the other

So that took me up to around 1930ish and time to throw the towel at the red dog.

CYA!

The bumper does stick out a bit, but that was necessary because of the H2O tank and the winch I wanted to use. The hitch gives up a bit of ground clearance, but not a lot. The lower edge is 28" above tera-firma, whereas the lifted Silverado's hitch is 22".

This will allow the trailer to ride nice and level, as if I made the bumper to fit it or something crazy like that!

Here is the other side boxed in

The hitch is not done by any means. It will still get attached to the fairhead plate and I'll bring in two braces from the frame after I add new tabs for the side wings when I get that far.

Next I added two pieces on the outboard upright to start to attach the top plate to. I am using some 1" X 3" high strength tubing that was all rejected by a company called "Big A$$ Fans. The steel company cut several hundred 2 foot sections of this tubing, but the BAF company rejected them because they had burrs or were 1/32" too short! Now those pieces are being sold as scrap, so a lot of my projects will now be using this tubing!

26883
Build Threads / Re: SquareD Part 6 Starting to finish!!!

Then after measuring, remeasuring and checking a third time, the hitch assembly was welded to the existing bumper structure

About then the rain had stopped some 15 minutes, so I went outside to work on my tan.

Oh and I welded on those earlier pieces I showed

26885

26886

Build Threads / Re: SquareD Part 6 Starting to finish!!!

Then just before I could weld all that in, it started to rain, and the back end of the truck is outside (So I can work on my tan while welding) so I moved ahead

Here is the tow hitch being created. Starting with 2.5" square tubing, 3/16" thick, all you have to do is drill a hole and weld it in, really

Are you going to have a bolt on hitch receiver or will it be built into the bumper?
Built in, in fact that is what you will be reading about tonight.

I lost my train of thought. That horrible tac-topper pic has me shaken up.

Tried to forget about that one... And yes there was a second one, a side flipper. That one was nicer but started to get heavy so I just canned it and purchased the factory built aluminum topper that rides on there to this day.

Good thing is I learned a ton on those two failed projects. I will be doing things a bit differently if I do the lunar lander back end on Square D

So getting back to the PAH (Project at hand) I was about to close in some of the open areas and do some more triangulating when I stopped last night

Lets start there:

Those green eggs were pre T-Ration. Mess hall powered eggs in a marimite can about 12 hours old...barely warm, barely edible. I was in a battle position with my M60A1 tank in a cold fall day in a drizzle of a rain. My heater inside was broke, so the only way you could warm up was to stand in the engine exhaust!

Looks like you got all the left coast representatives accounted for now. How did she become afflicted with all of these nasties? pretty tough to get one of these let alone the full assault she's dealing with.

She went in to have a boil looked at about a month ago. They took care of it and gave her antibiotics, which I believe either didn't clear up the infection she had or she didn't take the full course of treatment.
So the infection went all over and exploded. Perhaps she picked up something in the hospital, because one of the infections is by one of those super bugs which are anti-biotic resistient.

Then she started getting very sick, which was a coincidental relapse of meningitis. The lowered immune system by all the sickness allowed everything to come on. She was hospitalized and I guess developed pneumonia while in the hospital. From what I got today, she nearly died Saturday night, hanging on to a thread of life. Prayer works because little bit by little bit she is holding on and showing signs of surviving.
I don't have the whole story. We just found out yesterday late afternoon.

"The  Meaning of the Flag Draped Coffin"

 Meaning  of Flag Draped Coffin
 All  Americans should be given this lesson. Those who think that  America is an arrogant nation should really reconsider that  thought. Our founding fathers used GOD's word and teachings to  establish our Great Nation and I think it's high time Americans  get re-educated about this Nation's history.
 Pass  it along and be proud of the country we live in and even more  proud of those who serve to protect our 'GOD GIVEN' rights and  freedoms.

I hope you take the time to read this ... To  understand what the flag draped coffin really means ... Here is  how to understand the flag that laid upon it and is surrendered  to so many widows and widowers.
 Do  you know that at military funerals, the 21-gun salute stands for  the sum of the numbers in the  year 1776?
 <image.gif>
 Have  you ever noticed the honor guard pays meticulous attention to  correctly folding the United States of America Flag 13 times?  You probably thought it was to symbolize the original 13  colonies, but we learn something new every  day!
 The  1st fold of the flag is a symbol of life.
 <image.gif>
 The  2nd fold is a symbol of the belief in eternal  life.
 <image.gif>
 The  3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans  departing the ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the  defense of the country to attain peace throughout the  world.

 The  4th fold represents the weaker nature, for as American citizens  trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well  as in time of war for His divine guidance.
 <image.gif>
 The  5th fold is a tribute to the country, for in the words of  Stephen Decatur, 'Our Country, in dealing with other countries,  may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or  wrong.'
 <image.gif>
 The  6th fold is for where people's hearts lie. It is with their  heart that they pledge allegiance to the flag of the United  States of America , and the Republic for which it stands, one  Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for  all.
 The  7th fold is a tribute to its Armed Forces, for it is through the  Armed Forces that they protect their country and their flag  against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without  the boundaries of their republic.

 The  8th fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of  the shadow of death, that we might see the light of  day.

 The  9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, and Mothers. For it has been  through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the  character of the men and women who have made this country great  has been molded.
 The  10th fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his  sons and daughters for the defense of their country since they  were first born.

 The  11th fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David  and King Solomon and glorifies in the Hebrews eyes, the God of  Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
 <image.gif>
 The  12th fold represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in the  Christians eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy  Spirit.
 The  13th fold, or when the flag is completely folded, the stars are  uppermost reminding them of their Nations motto, 'In God We  Trust.'

 After  the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the  appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers  who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and  Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were  followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of  the United States, preserving for them the rights, privileges  and freedoms they enjoy today.
 There  are some traditions and ways of doing things that have deep  meaning.
 In  the future, you'll see flags folded and now you will know  why.
 Share  this with the children you love and all others who love what is  referred to, the symbol of ' Liberty and  Freedom.'

don't mind it either bobby, I was just being boo boo lipped and trying to stay awake.

Suck it up Sarge, take a knee,face out, drink water, change your socks, take a motrin, avoid 2LT's and drive on.

And go have breakfast then crash and sleep. At least that's what I did when I got off CQ/SD. Hit the DFAC, pile eggs,biscuits,hashbrowns on a plate, cover liberally with sausage gravy and hot sauce, followed up with sleep.
Remember the brownies?

Used to roll them up in a ball and throw them up onto the ceiling to see how long it/they would stay there with being noticed or falling.

Remember the story I wrote about Top finding me and my tank crew back in the day. in a canteen cup he doled out green eggs, then covered that with spaghetti, and topped it all with peaches...and I ate every last bit of it!
